Halloween Special – Horror Movies, a Podcast, and Ghost Tours

This is our very last of Halloween Specials. In this short episode, I’m bringing you a bunch of recommendations for a Croatian-themed Halloween.

Have you already made a list of movies to watch this Halloween? Fear not (or be afraid, be very afraid), Croatia Underrated is here to help. I say – be very afraid because, truth be said, if you’ve heard anything good about these movies, they are probably overrated, not underrated.

Still, let me share some horror movies filmed in Croatia, and some other recommendations for this Halloween. Listen to the episode or scroll down if you prefer reading:

Halloween Special: Witches

Do you know how we call Halloween in Croatian? Noć vještica. The Night of the Witches. As I told you before, it’s not a very big thing in Croatia. We learn about it from the old movie Halloween. The translation of the title was Noć vještica, and this has stuck with us since.

I guess that it’s only fair to dedicate the entire episode… to the witches! We have an abundance of both mythical and historical witches in Croatia. Hear the stories out!

I have to warn you. Some of the info in this episode might not be for your youngsters. Please, listen to the content before deciding whether you want to let them learn about this uncomfortable history and legends.

Wonders of Rogoznica

The new podcast episode is dedicated to my favorite town on the Croatian coast. It’s Rogoznica. Some call it the heart of Dalmatia.

It’s a rather new nickname to be fair. I started hearing it only recently. However, it’s a nickname that suits it well. The cape Punta Planka in the wider Rogoznica area is the place where the North and South Adriatic meet and clash, sometimes visibly to the naked eye. It’s also a safe harbour and a place of an iconic power, if you ask me, at least. It’s a heart as a center, a heart as a guardian of life, and the life-pumping heart due to all the peculiar energy of the place. Scroll down to continue reading or listen to the episode:

It’s my favorite town because I’ve been spending my summers there since I was a kid. It is there where I first decided that I was going to be a researcher of the paranormal when I grew up. I’m still not quite there yet, but there’s still time. Hey, to become a researcher of the paranormal, not to grow up! It’s too late for that:)

Shout Out – Perunfest

I decided to record this episode after spending most of the weekend at Perunfest. I hope to spread the word about this festival of fantasy, fairy tales, and forgotten folk believes. Usually, this festival takes place in the last days of May/first days of June. This year, that wasn’t possible due to the Covid pandemic. I know this reason is self-understanding at the moment, but I am emphasizing this because I like to imagine someone listening to this episode a few years from now without a single clue why would anyone postpone a festival unless it has something to do with the weather 🙂

The weather forecast for the Perunfest weekend wasn’t perfect either. But I guess the organizers decided to risk it since the main topic was creatures from the local folklore connected to – thunderstorms. You might say it was a good test of whether or not the festival would please them.
